Coomassie Brilliant Blue is the name of two similar triphenylmethane dyes (R-250 and G-250) originally developed for the textile industry and now widely used for staining proteins in analytical biochemistry. The name "Coomassie" is a registered trademark of Imperial Chemical Industries. The G-250 variant differs from R-250 by the addition of two methyl groups.
