Caprylic acid, also known as octanoic acid, is a saturated medium-chain fatty acid (C8) with the formula H3C−(CH2)6−COOH. It occurs naturally in the milk of various mammals and as a minor constituent of coconut oil and palm kernel oil. It is used in the production of esters for perfumery, as an antimicrobial agent, and as a dietary supplement.
