Petrolatum, also known as petroleum jelly, is a semi-solid mixture of hydrocarbons obtained from petroleum during the dewaxing of paraffinic residual oils. It is widely used in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals as an occlusive moisturizer and protective ointment.
