Pimelic acid is an organic dicarboxylic acid with the formula HO2C(CH2)5CO2H, one CH2 unit longer than adipic acid. It occurs naturally as an intermediate in the biosynthesis of lysine and biotin, and is produced synthetically for industrial and cosmetic use.
