Is Stearyl Alcohol vegan?

Stearyl Alcohol (1-Octadecanol) is a long-chain fatty alcohol produced by hydrogenation or reduction of stearic acid or stearyl esters. Historically sourced from sperm whale oil, it is now predominantly produced from vegetable oils, though animal-derived sources remain possible. It is used in cosmetics as an emollient, emulsifier, and thickener.
