Benzanthrone (BZA) is a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon that forms a yellow solid. It is used as a dyestuff intermediate for anthraquinone-based dyes and is produced by reduction of anthraquinone to anthrone followed by alkylation with glycerol and sulfuric acid.
