Ammonium polyphosphate is a synthetic ammonium salt of polyphosphoric acid, used as an anti-caking agent and stabilizer in food, and also widely used as a flame retardant. It is approved in the US (INS 545) but not currently listed as an EU-approved food additive under that number.
