Is Astaxanthin vegan?

Astaxanthin is a keto-carotenoid belonging to the terpene class of phytochemicals. It occurs naturally in microalgae (such as Haematococcus pluvialis), yeast, salmon, trout, krill, shrimp, and other marine organisms, and can also be produced synthetically. It is widely used as a dietary supplement and colorant in aquaculture feed.
