Is Lactic Acid vegan?

Lactic Acid

Vegan Unconfirmed
Vegetarian Vegetarian

Lactic acid is an organic acid produced primarily by the bacterial fermentation of carbohydrate substrates such as cornstarch, molasses, or whey. It is used as an acidulant, pH regulator, preservative, and skin-conditioning agent in food, cosmetics, and pharmaceutical products.

Why unconfirmed?

Lactic Acid can be either derived from animal, or non-animal sources. The ingredient name itself is identical either way, so the label alone can’t tell you which. Only a supplier declaration can.
