Is Orchil vegan?

Orchil is a natural purple-red dye historically extracted from lichens (such as Roccella species), used as a food and textile colourant (INS 182) and approved in the US, though not currently listed as an EU-approved additive.

An ingredient is considered vegan if it contains no animal-derived components at any point in its production.
